Burundi Honey Process – Masha
From the hills of Gatara in Burundi’s renowned Kayanza region, this honey-processed Bourbon is a testament to the resilience and richness of its land. Grown by over 3,200 smallholder farmers—each cultivating fewer than 300 trees on modest plots—the coffee reflects deep-rooted traditions and communal dedication.
The Process:
At 1,672 meters above sea level, ripe cherries are delivered to Masha Washing Station, where they undergo a honey process—leaving a layer of fruit mucilage on the beans during drying. This method enhances body and sweetness while preserving the region’s bright, floral notes.
